South African Thoracic Society

Support the Advancement of Pulmonology in South Africa

Founded in 1972, the South African Thoracic Society (SATS) has grown from a small professional group into the leading representative body for lung health professionals in South Africa. Our membership includes pulmonologists, paediatric pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other allied health professionals dedicated to improving lung health across South Africa and the African continent.

Our core mission is to advance lung health through education, training, research, and advocacy. As a non-profit organization, we rely on support from partners like you to continue our vital work, particularly in underserved communities where access to respiratory care and education is limited.

Your donation will directly support initiatives that promote lung health awareness, improve training for healthcare workers, and expand access to respiratory care in marginalized communities.

As a medical professional, you know first-hand the burden that respiratory diseases place on patients, families, and our healthcare system. The South African Thoracic Society (SATS), exists to serve clinicians like you by providing access to the latest knowledge, guidelines, and professional development opportunities in respiratory medicine.

Your contribution will directly help to:

  • Expand access to education and training: Donations allow us to grow our library of evidence-based resources and CME activities, ensuring that doctors across South Africa, especially those in resource-limited settings, can access high-quality, up-to-date clinical information.
  • Strengthen our professional community: Support enables SATS to host workshops, conferences, and online learning that connect physicians, foster collaboration, and promote best practices in patient care.
  • Drive advocacy and awareness: By contributing, you help amplify the voice of specialists in shaping public health initiatives and policies aimed at reducing the burden of respiratory disease.

Every donation is an investment in your profession and in the well-being of the patients we all serve. Together, we can raise the standard of pulmonary care and improve outcomes for communities across South Africa.
